Hackbarth Trail boardwalk repair awaits DNR matching grant, staff say

Tab said the Hackbarth Trail boardwalk repair is in the capital budget but that the project is currently on hold pending final approval from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for a matching grant. "We're waiting for final approval from the DNR, in which they would match us, and it would include the boardwalk and some of the trails," Tab said. Staff said they have received encouraging feedback but cannot proceed until the match is confirmed.
Commissioners asked whether the repair would replace all boards or include alternative materials; staff replied the project would replace boards with real wood but use improved tolerances and more uniform runners to improve durability. Tab urged patience until grant approval arrives and requested the commission note the funding dependency.
