Flowood denies sign-variance request to allow brand advertising for Earthwalk Shoes

At the Aug. 15 meeting, the board held a public hearing on a sign-variance application filed by Tammy Wellington, doing business as Earthwalk Shoes, for 2323 Lakeland Drive, Suite C (tax parcel E10K-210). The requested variance sought permission to include brand advertising on the business sign.
Mike Prestage, Building Official, explained the purpose of the sign-variance hearing and answered questions from board members. Mayor Gary Rhoads and Aldermen, including Kirk McDaniel, explained provisions of the sign ordinance that prohibit advertising of products and brands as part of signage. Tammy Wellington and Larry Tatum spoke in favor of the application. After discussion, Alderman Kirk McDaniel moved to deny the application; Alderman Don Flynt seconded and the motion to deny passed unanimously among board members present.
