Director notes Modern WIC Act of 2025 and Quick Trip WIC pilot coming in April

Martha Olson (director) told the board a bill, described as the "Modern WIC Act of 2025," has been introduced; the bill would permanently allow remote certification and nutritional-risk assessments by phone or video in addition to in-person visits. Olson said the department has been operating under ARPA waivers that permit remote appointments, and those waivers are scheduled to end in September.
She also reported that one pilot convenience store will begin accepting WIC benefits at the end of April, which staff described as a positive step to increase participant access. Olson said the department will monitor legislative movement on the WIC bill and the effect on local operations when federal waivers expire.
