The audit identified potential savings and recommended negotiating credits; staff said Verizon offered a negotiated savings of roughly $5,376 and that another vendor, MedTel, presented larger headline savings but would not provide the county's current priority access on Verizon's towers for first responders.
Staff recommended staying with Verizon because of an established relationship and first-priority service for emergency responders and asked the commission to authorize the chair or staff to sign the necessary modification to Verizon's billing terms. "They are giving us some cost savings, and we can reevaluate and possibly save more in the future as well," staff said. Commissioners agreed to include the contract language on Tuesday's agenda for action.
