Martha Olson, director of the Vernon County Health Department, told the board the department had received a $2,400 vaccine outreach award and asked members to approve a budget amendment to accept the funds. The amendment passed on a voice vote after a motion and second.
Olson said the money would be used to purchase billboards and clinic materials to encourage providers and patients to have one-on-one vaccine conversations. "We did receive $2,400," she said, adding the department hoped to get several billboards and matching in-clinic materials to standardize messages across providers. Emily (staff member) said the team expected to buy roughly three billboards at about $500 to $700 each and to provide consistent messaging across clinics to reinforce the outreach campaign.
The director said the grant funds had to be spent by September and suggested posting messages over the summer when families obtain school physicals. Olson also said the department would pursue partner support and a press release to amplify the campaign. The board did not request additional information before approving the amendment.
