Engineer outlines paving work, Riverside bridge planning and Veterans Parkway investigation

Clay Phillips, the county engineer, told the commission crews finished paving in the Camp Winnetowska area and had moved to the Show Creek/Journey's Inn section, with work next planned for Old Coast City and Watzville in District 1. He said base crews have been supporting a Wool Creek debris-removal contractor and have been assigned storm-related tasks on Kettle Creek Road while a safety widening project moves through planning, expected to be left in place around Sept. 30.
Phillips asked commissioners to authorize geotechnical testing on Veterans Parkway to investigate persistent rutting and wet spots on the 2024 section. "I got a proposal from Terracon. It'd be, $20,000," Phillips said, adding the firm would core spots to determine the roadbed condition and recommend fixes. He also said the engineering firm that produced the original design for the Riverside bridge is preparing a proposal to do environmental, planning and design work so the county can pursue construction funding.
