Pleasant Prairie board approves three‑year firefighters contract

The Village Board of Pleasant Prairie voted to approve a three‑year collective bargaining agreement with the Pleasant Prairie Professional Firefighters Association Local 3785 effective Jan. 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2028. Trustee James Kedra moved approval; the motion was seconded and carried after brief discussion.
Fire Chief Dave Wilkinson summarized the contract in open session, saying the proposal includes “a 4% increase in 2026 and 3.25 percent in ’27 and ’28.” He told the board the previous contract expired Dec. 31, 2025, and that staff negotiated the three‑year deal to keep compensation competitive with neighboring agencies.
The chief also highlighted nonwage provisions: expanded residency eligibility to include McHenry (Ill.), Waukesha and Milwaukee; provisions for paramedic‑level training and time off; fitness‑for‑duty language tied to NFPA standards; increasing the number of members off during a shift from two to three; a $500 Kenosha County HAZMAT stipend deposited to MissionSquare retirement accounts; and $1.50 per hour paramedic preceptor pay while staff are precepting.
Trustee Eric briefly recognized union leadership during discussion, and the chair thanked Chief Wilkinson, staff and union representatives for work on the agreement. The chair announced the motion carried; the board then adjourned the special meeting.
