Byron-Bergen reports 93 students classified with disabilities, outlines professional development plans

The Byron-Bergen Central School District reported a decline in the number of students classified with disabilities at its Oct. 15 board meeting. Director of Instructional Services B. Brown told the board there are 93 classified students this year (10.5%), down from 101 (11.2%) the previous year; 73 attend Byron-Bergen while 20 are in out-of-district placements.
Brown provided additional program details: 36 classified students spend 80% or more of the day in the regular classroom, while 18 spend less than 40% of the day in the classroom. The district plans professional development on the NYSED Blueprint for Improved Results for Students with Disabilities, will continue use of a Case Manager Handbook and a Guide to Writing an IEP, and will onboard a new CPSE Chair (Coordinator of Student Services).
The report described program objectives including implementing Part 200 regulations, maintaining CSE and CPSE processes, and ensuring appropriate space and confidentiality for students with disabilities. The board did not take action on staffing changes during the report.
