WisDOT praises county partnership, flags maintenance costs after extreme winter and floods

Chair David Christianson opened the Highway Committee meeting at 9:00 a.m. and welcomed Tim Rank and Scott Nelson from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, who thanked the county for its work and emphasized the statewide impacts of recent weather. Rank and Nelson discussed personal protective equipment standards and the effects of an extreme winter and recent flooding on maintenance budgets, distributing three handouts that included discretionary maintenance projects, recovered damage claims and Oconto County’s 2026–2031 project list. WisDOT staff also recommended a campaign to educate the public about using brine in winter operations to increase public awareness.
