Shorewood agrees to pay $130,000 to Joliet to reserve sewer capacity for future growth

Staff recommended approving a $130,000 payment to Joliet to secure that oversizing and dedicated capacity.
According to staff, the upsized segment would be located near the Des Plaines River wetlands and would avoid future permitting complications for Shorewood when its connection point is upgraded; the board moved to approve the IGA and the $130,000 payment and approved it by roll call. Public questions clarified that the current agreement with Joliet for wastewater treatment remains in place and that this IGA secures additional capacity for future growth rather than changing current disposal arrangements.
The IGA reserves capacity for Shorewood; any further negotiation for additional long-term capacity beyond this reserved section would be handled separately with Joliet.
