Committee ratifies evacuation-subcommittee comments to the town safety element

Dale presented slides and explained that the evacuation-subcommittee had drafted and submitted comments on the town's draft Safety Element. Because the public comment period had closed, the town attorney said the committee must formally adopt the previously submitted comments for them to be considered an official committee submission.
"I move approval of the comments submitted to the town from the subcommittee of the evacuation committee," Jerry said when making the motion; it was seconded and approved by the committee, with Randy abstaining because he wanted the opportunity to edit the comments now that the submission period has closed.
Staff clarified that the Safety Element is a high-level portion of the General Plan — intended to be strategic and long-lived rather than a place for detailed operational procedures — and said there will be further opportunities to provide more granular input through other planning processes and subcommittees.
