Select Board approves contract with Anderson for Stickney Road, authorizes negotiation up to $198,000

The Sebago Select Board voted to award the Stickney Road backlog-standard reconstruction project to George Anderson & Son, authorizing negotiation on the final price up to $198,000. Board members reviewed three bids — Hayes Excavating at $148,000, Franchetta at about $163,000 (but uncertain availability), and Anderson at about $198,000 — and debated scope, timelines and whether to require engineered plans.

S10, a board member and participant in the bid review, said of project goals: "At the end of the day with this, it needs to be a passable road." Several members stressed local preference and warranty concerns for long-term maintenance. A motion to award the work to Anderson with room for negotiation carried after discussion about specification clarity and timeline compliance. The board directed staff to finalize terms and begin project oversight and coordination so work can start as soon as scheduling allows.

Board members also discussed options for saving costs by using town equipment and materials in support of contractor work, and asked for clear specifications to avoid later change orders. The board noted the town likely has budget coverage for the award but acknowledged emergency funds could be required if unforeseen issues arise.
