Elementary and secondary student councils report Red Ribbon Week, launch food and holiday drives

Elementary students led Red Ribbon Week activities including classroom visits and bracelets; both elementary and Jr./Sr. high councils announced a Nov. 17–21 food drive for The Mustard Seed Food Pantry and a district holiday gift drive with grade-level collection assignments.
Elementary Student Council members told the board they learned meeting norms and parliamentary procedure, voted unanimously to buy popcorn bags and silicone bracelets for Red Ribbon Week, and visited each of 24 homerooms to promote the national theme "Life is a Puzzle. Live it Drug Free." They said students who pledged were given bracelets and coloring pages and were asked to wear red on Oct. 27.
A Jr./Sr. High Student Council member reported on homecoming and spirit-week activities and outlined a District Holiday Gift Drive: grades are assigned specific items (wrapping paper, bows, bags, tissue, etc.) with a prize for the grade that collects the most. The high school council also plans December events including visits to the elementary school for story reading, cookie decorating and winter activities. Both councils presented the activities as student-led service and community engagement.
