Superintendent summarizes policy updates and discloses recent FOIA requests to district
Summary
Superintendent Grimes briefed the board on policy updates following Press 120 and disclosed three FOIA requests the district received in February and March, including a request to inspect emails referencing Palestine/Gaza; responses were dated Feb. 17 and March 6.
Superintendent Grimes told trustees the district has processed numerous policy updates tied to recent legal and administrative guidance (Press 120), noting changes ranging from footnote/legal-reference updates to substantive updates on student access and supports.
He said policies 6235, 6240 and 6280 required no substantive changes while policy 6315 was updated to expand opportunities for 7th- and 8th-grade students to earn high-school credit. He also described updates on equal-education opportunity language tied to citizenship/immigration and mental-health protocols (policy 7290), including a requirement that staff ID cards for grades 6–12 include helpline information on the back.
Separately, Grimes disclosed three Freedom of Information Act requests received by the district: (1) a Feb. 2, 2026 request from Dr. Naval Sullivan seeking emails between district board members and administrators referencing Palestine, Palestinian, Gaza or related flags (dates later narrowed to Nov. 1, 2025–Jan. 30, 2026) with a response sent Feb. 17; (2) a Feb. 9, 2026 request from Public Info Access LLC seeking records about purchasing and contracting approval authority and dollar thresholds (response Feb. 17); and (3) a Feb. 27, 2026 request from Rebecca Bennett seeking superintendent contracts and salary/benefit records from 2019 to present (response March 6).
Grimes said many policy updates were largely footnote-driven but emphasized training and accessibility measures now in place for staff.
