District 69 urges Cook County Election Board to move polling out of Lincoln school

District administrators told the Board that the concentration of polling locations at school buildings disrupts instruction and campus safety on election days. Superintendent Dr. Margaret Clauson said the district has "continued to voice their concern to the Board of Election that the use of schools has a negative impact on the student day," and asked the county to move precincts to alternative sites such as Oakton College, Skokie Public Library or Oakton Center.
Clauson noted that state law currently allows the election authority to compel schools to serve as polling places and that, over time, the Election Board has consolidated precincts at schools for operational ease. The Board did not adopt a new policy but recorded the request and discussion; the administration said it will continue to press the Election Board and consult legal counsel and the school board association on potential changes.
