District recommends Arts & Letters for K–5 literacy after regional pilot

After a multi-district review and pilot, the Collaborative for Curriculum (CFC) recommended Arts & Letters as the top-rated K–5 literacy program for adoption. Staff described a multi-step process: initial screening of 91 materials on EdReports, narrowing to 27, then 8 for hard-copy review, followed by a year-long pilot with 81 teachers and leaders providing evidence-based ratings. The presenter said Arts & Letters earned "very good" ratings across most rubric dimensions; one area (differentiation for multilingual learners) received a "good" rating.
For implementation, staff proposed summer professional development sessions, PLC-embedded work on early-release days and institute days, feedback loops with literacy specialists and continued CFC coaching. Board discussion noted the decision was driven in part by a desire to have "books in hand" in K–5 (less reliance on devices) and to amplify teacher voice through piloting and feedback.
