Commissioners forward planned development for medical-training facility amid neighborhood outreach concerns

Applicant representatives Blair Parker (Blair Parker Design) and Jason Owens (applicant) explained Mary's national training role and the need to expand facilities to support surgical training and a body-donor program. Commissioner Sugarman said only one resident attended the neighborhood meeting and moved to defer to allow additional community outreach in the district; that deferral motion was objected to and failed, and the committee later voted 5 ayes, 1 no, 1 abstain to recommend the PD favorably to the full commission. Sugarman said she will pursue further community conversations and, if necessary, bring a resolution to carry forward outreach or carry forward funding.
