The Fairfield Selectboard voted on July 27 to set the town's 2026 municipal tax rate at .4755, a 1.62% increase from the 2025 rate of .4679. Tom Howrigan moved to set the rate and Ron Bocash seconded; the motion carried with all in favor.
Board members noted that the State sets the education tax portion and asked the Town Clerk to contact the State about why the homestead rate decreased by 2.24% while the non-homestead rate increased by 3.99% for 2026. The Town Administrator later reported that the tax-rate calculation was reviewed internally and the process will be added to the town's Financial Controls and Procedures document for future transparency.
