Commission approves rezoning of Barthold Road parcel to General Office

The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved rezoning case Z25-0025A on Feb. 25, rezoning about 5.4 acres on Barthold Road from rural residential to the General Office (GO) district.
Matt Bodine, assistant planner, said staff found the request consistent with the future land use map (light industrial designation nearby) and with the city's economic goals for the corridor. He noted a green strip along Barthold Road had already been dedicated to TxDOT for future roadway use and therefore was not included in the rezoning.
Applicant representative Amy Bissett said the homeowner is on site and that the property owner envisions repurposing the existing house and using enhanced GO design standards for the entry to the city. "The home itself is, intended to be repurposed," she said, and the applicant explained the choice of GO zoning over light industrial was to secure stronger design standards at an entrance to Denton. The item passed on a 6-0 vote.
