Council rejects high pool-filter repair quote after calls for further inspection

Council members debated a quote from Municipal Service Co. to repair the community pool’s filter system. City Manager Tyler Franzky said the vendor’s estimate included a list of expensive potential repairs and that staff was not certain all listed parts would need replacement. Councilman Randy Stafford moved to accept the quote; Councilman David Hansen seconded the motion. After further discussion, the motion failed with only Stafford voting in favor and Olson, Petersen, Hansen and Adelman voting against.
Councilman Vince Adelman urged a more thorough inspection of the filter media and recommended replacing both filters at the same time when the pool is closed, rather than authorizing an immediate, high-cost repair based on the vendor’s preliminary list. No payment or contract award was authorized at the July 7 meeting and staff was directed to seek a clearer scope and estimate before returning to council.
