During the Feb. 23 special meeting, representatives of the Chippewa Strikers raised concerns about how the playing fields were established and maintained. Ryan Normand said crews dug down to gravel during original construction, planted three different grass types and that some hydro-seeded areas washed away in heavy rain; he also said Green Oasis removed black sand and sold it but did not charge the Strikers for the removal.
The Parks Board said it will collaborate with the Strikers on soil testing and grass analysis to ensure field conditions meet safe playing standards. Kent Stelter, a Parks Board member, noted that maintenance in 2025 included three fertilizer applications; the subcommittee of Squires, Stelter and Danielson will include review of these maintenance records and make recommendations to the full commission at the March meeting.
