South Roxana approves grant applications to fund drainage work and park equipment

The South Roxana village board voted 5-0 on Sept. 2 to approve two grant-related resolutions to support environmental and park improvements. RESOLUTION NO. 25-17 authorizes submission of the 2026 Environmental Grant application, and RESOLUTION NO. 25-18 authorizes submission of the 2026 Park Enhancement Program (PEP) application and requests $15,000 for park drainage equipment.
Chief Bob Coles told the board that Public Works and village staff have been "pulling out 60+ trees, debris, dirt and brush" from the retention pond and said the pumps paid for with grant funds will be used to properly drain the pond. The board adopted both resolutions by unanimous roll-call votes.
Why it matters: the drainage work addresses chronic ponding that village staff said has contributed to local flooding and maintenance problems. The PEP request specifically identifies $15,000 for drainage equipment, and the Environmental Grant authorization allows staff to seek additional funding for related work.
