Johnson County court reviews finances and flags ARPA interest for budgeting

"Road disbursements are good," Chair (S1) said as staff summarized ledger balances and recent purchases including a county trailer and landfill receipts.
The discussion moved to how to treat interest earned on ARPA funds. A committee member (S7) asked whether that interest is restricted; the record-reader noted that ARPA guidance the court had reviewed shows interest is unrestricted and could be moved into a county interest account or used for payroll. Members said unrestricted interest would simplify end-of-year budgeting and asked staff to bring precise accounting back at the next meeting.
Members also asked staff to gather bids for capital projects already on the list, including overflow parking, pavement behind the sheriff’s office and a gravel health-department lot identified for improvement. The court voted to receive the financial reconciliation and requested updated estimates and a list of immediate facility safety priorities.
