Select Board endorses park pavilion plan, approves interpretive signage and accepts donations

Charlie, the park project presenter, told the board that Underwood Engineers finalized the site plan and that the project will reconfigure the park entrance, widen access to the ballfields, add five parallel parking spaces, and construct a 23-by-48 pavilion with ADA-compliant walkways. He said most site work should be complete by late September and the pavilion raising is likely in late October or early November, with town staff and volunteers assisting. "All the timbers and lumber are ready to go for the joinery work for the pavilion," Charlie said, noting timber sourced from a small harvest on the Weir Road Town Forest and donated staging space and cash from local businesses.

The board approved two interpretive‑panel contracts tied to the park and Commercial Street. Chair (speaker 1) moved to spend $2,802 for Maja Design interpretive panels for the bridge at the town park and to authorize Kelly to sign; the motion passed by voice vote. Separately, the board approved option 2 (three Commercial Street panels with silhouette cutouts) at $7,075 and authorized the town administrator to sign. Charlie described several in-kind contributions: an Allstate materials yard offered staging space and a $5,000 donation, and local contractor Landshapes pledged stonework installation valued by the presenter at roughly $20,000. The presenter said the team hopes to finish rough landscaping this fall and hold a community celebration in spring.
