County staff explained a new step for the 2027 budget cycle in which standing committees preview position requests and provide feedback on priorities and offsets that would make additions more likely to be recommended. "This is something new, that we're doing this year, just so that the standing committees get a feel for the positions that are being asked for in the budget," staff said, and asked members to indicate which requests they supported.
Committee members discussed whether both the medical examiner and district attorney position requests should be recommended and asked staff to identify possible offsets or reorganization that could reduce net cost. Staff cautioned that not all requested positions will fit in the 2027 budget without offsets and encouraged actionable suggestions from committee members and new supervisors.
