The Village of South Chicago Heights Committee of the Whole on June 1, 2026, opened discussion of a business-license application for a proposed smoke shop called Society LLC Cigar Lounge at 186 W Sauk Trail. Mayor Terry Matthews summarized the application and noted the owner was not present for the meeting.
Lisa Estock told the board the applicant was seeking a "Bring your Own Booze" policy for the lounge. Village Attorney Matt Welch told trustees that the village has ordinances that regulate this type of business and that his office had researched relevant rules. Trustees questioned whether live or amplified music would be allowed, whether the venue would be rented to third parties, and whether the proprietor planned to buy or rent the building. Because the owner was absent and several operational and neighborhood concerns remained unresolved, the board agreed to place the item back on a future Committee of the Whole agenda for further consideration.
The discussion flagged proximity to residential areas and potential activities at the location as the principal sources of concern. No formal motion to approve the license was made during the meeting; the item remains under review by the board.
