Councilmember Ruby returned to a previously discussed request to renovate the Cedar Grove Community Center after a state grant application failed. She described the building as heavily used despite condition concerns and asked what the city can do to improve it.
Staff reported a scope of work estimated at approximately $81,000 to renovate bathrooms, the kitchen, flooring and painting, and noted prior sewer improvements had been completed. "We've got a breakdown of a scope work... we're talking about approximately $81,000," a staff member said. Councilmembers asked staff to provide an assessment, update the rental policy and consider adding Internet and seating to increase use. Emergency-management reviewers and outside agencies had examined the building for disaster response and, as described to council, rated it out of play at face value for primary sheltering but left it as a backup option.
Council supported returning the item with formal documentation and policies to protect the facility once renovated; no final appropriation vote occurred at the meeting.
