Residents urge action on snow‑clearing and request lighted crosswalk at Haddon/Rhoads

Adam Seyhan of Maple Avenue told the commission there is a safety problem after snow storms, saying, “There are roughly 5% of neighbors who have not shoveled their sidewalks, causing safety issues for students walking to and from school.” He urged the borough to require residents to clear sidewalks within a set timeframe following storms.

Donna Moffett of Jefferson Avenue asked the borough to install a lighted crosswalk at Rhoads Avenue and Haddon Avenue and asked that that location be included when future crosswalk installations are planned. Pam Fisk of Kings Highway East said she consistently shovels a pathway at her property, agreed that a shoveling requirement would improve safety, and raised concerns about bike riders using downtown sidewalks. Commissioner Troy acknowledged enforcement challenges for a mandatory shoveling ordinance, said the borough could encourage a "Good Neighbor" approach and noted that downtown properties are already subject to a shoveling requirement. He thanked Ms. Moffett for offering to fundraise for a lighted crosswalk and said maintenance and replacement costs would fall to the borough; Mayor Siedell also addressed the sidewalk shoveling issue.
