Consultants described plans to improve pedestrian and bicycle access to Easton's Beach, including a primary walkway and a dedicated two-way cycle track south of Memorial Boulevard with a planted buffer. "We've added a robust primary walkway connection, but also a dedicated 2 way cycle track," Ian said, and consultants showed visuals of boardwalks moved slightly landward to reduce storm damage.
Team members also addressed beach access aids: all boardwalk-to-beach connections would use MobiMats to provide pedestrian and maintenance/emergency access, and designers said all new buildings and boardwalks would be ADA accessible with sloped ramps or switchbacks where necessary. The consultants noted the trade-off that higher elevated platforms require longer ramps to meet accessibility standards.
