City, consultants preview Easton’s Beach resiliency plan, invite public to June workshops

The Newport Beach Commission heard a technical briefing on Phase 2 of the Easton’s Beach resiliency study and was invited to three in‑person design workshops June 16–18 (with a virtual concept presentation June 30) to help shape nature‑based options and amenity tradeoffs.
Chair Mark Fitzgerald opened the June 4 meeting by moving the data presentation to the front of the agenda so the public and commissioners could review nine months of consultant work on Easton’s Beach. "We are this is the 1st of several events that are taking place in the month of June for the Easton's Beach planning for a resilient future," said Teresa Kreen, who introduced the consultant team and the schedule.
Beth Kermsy of the consultant team said the workshop series will be intensive and community‑focused, with a site walk and interactive stations. "We encourage you to attend all of those sessions on the 16th, 17th, and 18th," she said, adding that a virtual final presentation is scheduled for June 30.
The briefing framed the workshops as a step to balance scientific modeling with community values on amenities, accessibility and long‑term maintenance. Consultants said the June sessions will collect preferences that the team will use to refine design alternatives and performance modeling.
