Council authorizes $288,000 contract to pave CityShop yard amid neighbor concerns

The Bandon City Council authorized a contract with Johnson Rock Products for $288,000 to pave the city shop yard, approving a three-inch pavement option to reduce dust, mud and safety issues when moving heavy equipment.

Kevin (electric supervisor) said the yard is mostly gravel and that paving the apron and frontage to the gate will ease forklift operations and reduce maintenance problems. "The gravel's becoming increasingly difficult to maintain, and the main problem we have is it goes from a dust hole to a mud hole really quick," he said.

Tom Stout of Humana Supply, whose business abuts the city yard, raised concerns about runoff, drainage and a cross-traffic safety issue at the Elmira entrance. Councilors and staff clarified the project scope: paving will extend from the primary apron out to the gate but will not pave the rear of the city shop yard. Council authorized the interim city manager to execute the contract; the motion passed unanimously, and council asked staff to review ingress/egress and drainage details with neighbors.
