Board approves zoning variance for insurance auto-auction after brief discussion

The Caseyville village board approved a zoning variance to allow an insurance auto-auction operation after a motion, a second and a roll-call vote. An applicant/representative and members of the public addressed the board about typical operations and related zoning questions prior to the vote.
Nick Arder, who identified himself during public comment, said he was at the meeting to discuss the auto-auction proposal. “I’m here tonight to reference insurance auto auctions,” he said while describing needed approvals from the zoning board. Trustees then took a motion to approve the zoning item, which was seconded; the board recorded affirmative votes and the motion carried.
During public comment several residents also urged the board to enforce designated truck routes and noted trucks repeatedly using a road behind local restaurants and hotels; the board said staff would follow up on routing and enforcement. The zoning action was discrete to the parcel and included the board’s recorded roll-call vote.
