Planning staff briefed the board that the City Council approved the Vision Zero program and an associated Safety Action Plan at the May 28 council meeting. The plan, produced with RIPTA grant support and consultant work, includes specific implementable safety actions intended to augment Newport’s transportation master plan and to inform future project design and permitting.
Staff noted slides were provided for the public record and that the Safety Action Plan is available online for review. Board members referenced the plan when discussing event‑traffic management and shared‑street design proposed for Waites Wharf, and staff said the Safety Action Plan should guide implementation measures for multimodal safety on narrow waterfront streets.
