HDC to ask state delegation to restore historic preservation fund supporting SHPO operations

During new business, a commissioner urged the board to send a letter to state representatives and delegates to press for release of the federal Historic Preservation Fund and to protect SHPO staffing levels. The commissioner said that cuts in the proposed 2026 federal budget could reduce SHPO capacity to process tax credits and administer grants the HDC uses, including CLG funding.
Commissioners expressed unanimous support for the concept and encouraged individual advocacy; the chair asked staff to prepare and send the letter on the commission’s behalf and to coordinate with the city council member preparing a separate resolution.
