County canvasses June 2 primary; turnout 45.03%

Election Administrator Toni Hofland presented the official canvas of the June 2, 2026 primary election and answered commissioners' questions about turnout and potential impacts of ballot‑measure proposals. Hofland reported county turnout at 45.03 percent; statewide turnout for the primary was 37.92 percent. The Commission voted 5‑0 to approve the canvass.

Commissioner Ed Beaudette asked whether a revived constitutional‑amendment initiative to require levies to be approved by a majority of all eligible voters (instead of only those who vote) could present implementation problems; Hofland said such a change would affect future elections and turnout outcomes if it passed. “Our turnout was 45.03% so we had a real low turnout in this primary,” Hofland said, noting potential complications for any measure changing the levy approval threshold.
