Commission schedules site visit for 134–136 Spring Street; preservation planner authorized for administrative sign‑off

The Newport Historic District Commission agreed Tuesday to schedule a site visit at 134–136 Spring Street after contractor Sean Napolitano told the panel the framing and core structural work were finished and the building "is saved, framed, completed, the roof, everything as per plan." The commission asked the preservation planner to review conditions after the visit and authorized administrative approval of outstanding rear and north‑side work if the planner is satisfied.

Chair opened the continued application with a summary of the original certificate of appropriateness and framed the commission’s options. Commissioners pressed for documentation and an on‑site review before final administrative action; the motion to schedule a site visit and to allow staff to administratively approve the rear construction and north one‑story addition based on the site visit passed by voice vote. Staff will coordinate the visit with the applicant and notify commissioners who can attend.
