South Jacksonville police propose language-app service and fees for fingerprinting

Police Chief Eric Hansell reported operational challenges with language access and described a commercial phone/app service the department could use. He said the service does not require a contract beyond a three-year commitment and quoted per-minute rates: "The fee is $.65 per minute for Spanish, $.99 per minute for other languages and $1.89 per minute for sign language." Attorney Roland Cross said he knows people who use the service and described it as "good." Hansell said he will research the option further and return with more details.
Separately, Hansell proposed the department begin charging for fingerprinting to offset costs: "$15.00 for residents and $25.00 for nonresidents," plus a $25 processing fee for sex-offender records. Attorney Cross raised biometric-law issues and indicated the Village may need a consent form; Hansell said he will draft an ordinance for review by the attorney.
