Committee discusses dumpster placement, compactor options and recycling costs

The committee discussed moving a temporary shelter and the Silver Bullet recycling unit to the far end of the transfer area so recycling and drop-off traffic would be separated from compactors and dumpsters. Chair said the group would meet with transfer-station staff to finalize placement and make the arrangement official.
On compactor options and costs, Chair said Dominic will provide a dollar figure and cautioned that full compactor systems are expensive. "But at the same time, we can save almost $20,000 put towards getting that taken care of," the Chair said, explaining that partnering with EcoMaine could help model costs. Members noted recycling only becomes cost-effective at higher participation rates and that a phased approach with bids for pads and electrical work is planned.
