The Wilson County School Board on Aug. 3 approved Budget Amendment 2027‑01, a $3,600,000 transfer from designated fund balances to purchase school buses, replace or provide Chromebooks and cover capital‑project expenditures. Director of Schools described the amendment as a reallocation of previously designated pockets of funds and reserves.
"What you have is a budget amendment. In essence, the 3,600,000 is transferring from that designated fund balance that we did during budget time in order to purchase, school buses, which would be the transportation equipment, Chromebooks, and then capital project expenditures," the Director of Schools said. Mr. Sebastian added that the district is drawing from a number of designated pockets, including McKinney‑Vento donations and Family Resource Center funds.
Board members moved, seconded and approved the amendment unanimously, 5‑0. The board had been advised that the funds are already designated for these purposes and that the transfer preserves in‑house funding for other priorities. A finance work session for new board members to review budget mechanics was suggested during follow‑up discussion.
