District weighs gym lighting replacements ahead of state fluorescent ban

Superintendent Nathan Libbon updated the board on several facility projects, including banner and window-covering installations, bleacher delivery scheduled for Nov. 4, and completion of the long jump/triple jump runway. He also reported that the state will clean out the ditch line that runs along Hwy. 73.
Libbon alerted trustees to a state law taking effect Jan. 1, 2025, that will prohibit the manufacture, sale or purchase of fluorescent light bulbs after that date. He said the district has several ballasts that have failed in the gym and staff are obtaining cost estimates to replace ballasts and install LED lighting as needed.
The board did not take formal action on lighting at the Oct. 24 meeting; administrators will return with estimates for replacement options and costs.
