The Eden Central School District honored student Lucy Heffernan at its board meeting for running a repeated food‑drive effort that benefits the North Collins Food Pantry. The board read a certificate acknowledging her “outstanding contributions” and community leadership.
Board members said Lucy’s effort has grown: “It’s 1,234,” the board noted when listing this year’s total. Lucy told the board she started the collection in eighth grade and emphasized the importance of giving back. Trustees thanked her and her family for the work and noted the fundraiser has yielded more than 3,500 pounds of food over five years.
The recognition was presented during the meeting’s opening segment; the board said it will follow up on ways to support student community service in future meetings.
