Instructional leaders report i-Ready growth; district shows jump in grade-level achievement

Instructional leaders presented an update on the district’s i-Ready math program and the individualized MyPath practice to the Eden Central School District Board of Education.
LaRosa, identified in the meeting as "director of curriculum and elementary principal," said the district has used i-Ready for four years including a pilot year and led an overview of classroom routines and supports. "So I have our math instructional leaders here to fill you in," LaRosa said as she introduced the team (LaRosa, S3).
Presenters described a Try-Discuss-Connect routine used across K–5 that they said increased student engagement and peer discussion. Presenter S4 summarized how the adaptive diagnostic places students at a working grade-level equivalent and explained: "So it kind of finds the level as they go through each of the strands of math, of what grade level it is, and it gives a grade level equivalent at the end." The team said students are then assigned MyPath practice tailored to that level for daily work on iPads or Chromebooks.
On district results, S4 reported substantive benchmark gains between diagnostics: "So we grew from 25% on grade level to 67%, and we really shrunk the yellow and the red below grade level," a statistic presenters offered as evidence of progress. Presenters also noted some younger students take longer to finish diagnostics and that Diagnostic 3 results were still being completed for the smallest grades.
Board members and leaders praised the instructional-leader model and linked the program choice to budget priorities. One board member asked whether the grade-level equivalent reflects a student's current mastery or expected proficiency at a later point; presenters answered that the adaptive test measures performance at the time of testing and reports an equivalent based on question difficulty.
The presenters said neighboring districts use the diagnostic piece of i-Ready, while Eden implemented the full program, and that Eden staff recently attended New York State numeracy briefings that reinforced the district’s approach. The presentation concluded with the board expressing appreciation for the instructional leaders and noting the program will be part of ongoing benchmarking and instructional supports.
