Planning board recommends site plan approval for 15,670 sq ft Bison Billiards at 6199 Transit Road

The Depew Planning Board on Aug. 6 voted to recommend the Village Board accept the site plan for a 15,670-square-foot pool hall at 6199 Transit Road, proposed by Michael Schreiber of Bison Billiards.
Civil engineer David Stutz said the project is an interior-only renovation of a former medical facility to create a pool hall with about 40 tables, a new bar and additional bathrooms. Stutz told the board the project will require a new sprinkler system and a 5-inch Storz connection outside the building to meet fire-protection requirements.
Owner Michael Schreiber described existing operations at his current location, citing long-running leagues and a steady, family-oriented clientele: “We have 73 leagues … I have over 500 people that play Monday through Thursday,” he said. He confirmed the venue will serve beer and wine only and that there are no plans for live music or concert-style events.
Board members and the fire chief discussed emergency access; the fire chief recommended installing a Knox Box, which the applicant agreed to pursue. The board recommended employee parking be limited to the rear lot and that the screening fence be maintained. On a motion by Member Matuszak, seconded by Member Spencer, the board voted unanimously among those present to forward the site plan to the Village Board with the stated conditions.
The Planning Board’s recommendation is advisory; the Village Board will issue the final site-plan decision.
