Mesquite ISD honors teachers, paraprofessionals, community partners and student leaders
Summary
Trustees recognized Apple Corps honorees (Myra/Margaret Pratt and Haley Thompson), a Star Para award recipient, the community partner Seasons of Change, and student council and NHS leaders from across the district.
The board devoted the opening portion of its Dec. 1 meeting to awards and recognitions. Trustees and staff presented Apple Corps teacher awards to a Poteet High School teacher introduced as Myra Pratt (the proclamation text later referred to 'Margaret Pratt'), and to Haley Thompson of Price Elementary. Recipients described teaching as a calling and thanked family, colleagues and students.
Kimball Elementary principal Bridget Mitchell presented the Star Para Award to Leanne Randall, praising her morning routines, calming presence with pre-K learners and outreach to families. The district also presented a community award to Seasons of Change for diaper and wipe distributions and a holiday program supporting families with young children.
Student leaders and National Honor Society presidents from several high schools were introduced and recognized; board members encouraged the students' civic engagement. The board noted the student artwork winners whose designs will appear on the district holiday card and ornaments.
