Mesquite ISD reports summer-learning gains; public hearing on accelerated instruction closes with no speakers

Keisha Willis presented the district’s Summer Recovery 2025 results and the accelerated-instruction effectiveness report. Willis said the district served over 3,000 students, served more than 34,000 meals and deployed 341 staff across programs that ranged from bilingual pre-K through targeted recovery at middle and high school levels. She highlighted assessment gains: 7th-grade RLA improved 16% and 8th-grade RLA improved 12%; middle-school math saw a 29% increase for one grade band and 8th-grade science improved by 17% from pre- to posttest.
The board opened a public hearing to evaluate accelerated-instruction effectiveness; there were no public speakers and the hearing was closed. Trustees asked clarifying questions about credit-recovery delivery; Willis said North Mesquite’s credit-recovery results were unusually high and staff would investigate processes to share best practices.
