Mesquite ISD JROTC programs score high on accreditation; Vanguard posts first honor unit with distinction

Colonel Ernest Burton Jr., director of army instruction for Mesquite ISD’s JROTC, reported strong program activity and accreditation results. He said the JROTC programs had high participation—over 900 cadets districtwide—and that all six programs scored over 98% on their recent evaluations; Vanguard earned a 100% score and its first honor unit with distinction.
Burton highlighted STEM integration (drone, robotics and CyberPatriot), summer STEM academy participation funded in part by Department of Defense awards, and community-service contributions. "We had all 6 of our GRTC programs score over 98% on their accreditation," Burton said, noting the programs’ service hours, competitions and industry visits that expose cadets to career pathways. Trustees asked about outreach, parent engagement and linking cadets to district initiatives such as emerging leaders.
