The Mesquite ISD Board of Trustees voted to adopt an ad valorem tax rate of 1.1669 to fund the district’s FY2025–26 budget. Trustee Bingham moved the tax-rate adoption and read the proposed rate aloud.
"I moved that the property tax rate be increased by the adoption of a tax rate, dollars 1.1669, which is effectively a 13.5% increase in the tax rate," the motion record shows. The board approved the motion by voice vote; President Carbo announced the motion carried and then adjourned the meeting.
District staff had briefed trustees earlier in the meeting on the process (budget adoption in June, appraisal values in July and compressed rate guidance from the state) and confirmed the maintenance-and-operations rate remained unchanged while the debt-service rate increased slightly. The adopted rate will be used to coordinate tax billing and collections with the tax office.
