At the July 23 meeting the Wilson County School Board suspended rules and approved a package of policy updates to bring district policies into compliance with state law that took effect July 1. The package included updates across student services, family life education, and code-of-conduct manuals that the administration said were chiefly technical and statutory compliance edits.
One notable change clarified during discussion prohibits the sale of drinks containing 100 milligrams or more of caffeine "during the school day." "When the bell rings at 08:30 to high school...it's during the school day," a board member noted during debate about whether vending between class periods counts as instructional time. After language corrections and a motion to approve, the board voted unanimously to adopt the policy language. The director said culinary arts fundraisers can continue to sell caffeinated drinks before the instructional day and that teachers and staff will have access in staff-only spaces.
