Mesquite ISD trustees honor teachers, staff and students during recognition segment

Mesquite Independent School District trustees spent a large portion of their Jan. 12 meeting recognizing educators, staff and students for recent achievements and service.
Danny Bebble, president of the Mesquite Education Association, opened the recognition segment by thanking trustees and presenting small gifts on behalf of MEA: “January is Scribe Board Appreciation Month and on behalf of the Mesquite Education Association, I want to sincerely thank each of you for your service to our students, staff and community.” The district’s library services announced it purchased Home by Matt de la Peña as a commemorative gift for the board, saying the title’s themes reflect the district’s focus on community and belonging.
Trustees formally welcomed two Apple Corps teacher honorees: Christie McCall, a special education/dyslexia teacher at Agnew Middle School, and Kimberly Mormon, a first-grade teacher at Thompson Elementary. McCall thanked colleagues and family, saying, “Today, I stand before you with a deep sense of gratitude and humility.” The board also presented the Star Para Award (January) to Anna Ruiz of Florence Elementary and recognized Ascend Dallas’s Parent Cafe program as a community partner for family engagement.
The board introduced several QuestBridge National College Match scholars and noted extracurricular accomplishments across the district, including AP Honor Roll recognition for Mesquite High School and Vanguard High School, district and area athletic championships, and UIL marching band advances. The recognitions were followed by a short recess before regular business resumed.
