Angleton ISD says deficit budget expected; district down to 10 teacher vacancies

Superintendent Phil Edwards told the board the district will present a deficit budget this summer and outlined administrative scheduling and hiring authority through the summer months. Edwards said the district is adjusting operations for graduation and summer work schedules and that "for the months of June, July and August, the Superintendent has hiring authority for Teachers." He also reported that bond investments have yielded interest returns, noting that "The 2019 bond has approximately 1 million dollars and the 2022 bond has approximately 11 million dollars."
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Alicia Press said the district would hold a job fair on May 28 and reported, "We are down to 10 teacher vacancies." She added the district will present a plan to the board next month regarding staff raises. Trustees did not take action on the budget at the May meeting but scheduled budget and pay-raise discussion for the June board meeting.
